The CE mark is a symbol that indicates that products comply with European Union regulations and can freely circulate within the European Union. By affixing the CE mark to a product, the manufacturer declares that their product meets all relevant legal requirements and can be used within the European Economic Area. This also applies to products produced outside the EU that will be sold within the EU.
The European Economic Area consists of the 28 EU member states, as well as the EFTA countries, which include Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and additionally, Turkey.
The CE mark is not a sign that the product was produced within the EU. However, it signifies that the product has been assessed, verified for minimum required conformity before being placed on the market, and, if necessary, examined by "notified bodies."
Ensuring the continued conformity of the product, preparing the technical file, making a declaration of conformity, and affixing the CE mark to the product is the responsibility of the manufacturer. Those distributing the product must confirm the presence of the necessary support documents and the CE mark. If the product is imported from countries outside the EU, the importer is responsible for verifying that the manufacturer meets the necessary requirements and has the required documentation.
